Ghritapanam - snehana

Description

Process which produces snehana (Unctuousness), Vishyandana (Fluidity), Mrudutwa (Softness), and Kledana (smoothness) in the body is known as snehana. This is achieved by internal oleation (snehapana) or external oleation (abhyanga)

Snehapana is one of the Purvakarma (preparatory) therapies in Ayurveda, a system of medicine in India. Sneha means oil. Ghee or oil infused with herbs is orally administered to the patient for a specific period. Before going to proceed for the main therapeutic procedures like emesis and purgation, oleation and sudation should be performed.
